Revenge of the Readheads

Today we travelled by bus from Las Palmas after a very welcome night in a hotel and a nice meal. We travelled South to Santa Domingo and then on to Bua. Here we met the Tsa'Chila Tribe of people who live in a small village about an hour away from Bua.

After introductions and a nice fresh drink of raw sugar cane which was freshly squeezed using a wooden press expertly by Pip along with some assistance from Martyn (pip doesn't agree), we engaged in a game of football with two mixed teams. Our performance was variable, and the game determined at draw.

We ate some extremely tasty freshly caught river fish, cooked in palm leaves.

The men in the tribe die the hair on the top of their heads bright red using a locally found berry as it is said to ward off poor health. We expect Ross and Joe's hair to return to normal in a day or two 8-) (they are busy warding for our tribe now!)

Now, perhaps somewhat unwisely, I have handed the blogging machine over to Charlotte as today's guest author:

Dear sad and lonely friends and family,

First and formost, why on earth are you on this blog again? We're still in Ecuador.

Anyway, long story short, we've all joined a tribe, all got tattoos And we are not coming home.

Thank you and goodnight,
Charlotte and Rosie

P.S - fear not parents - the tattoos are actually paint - we expect all of them (including Pippa's Harry Potter lightning bolt on her forehead) to have washed off in a day or two.

Seeing as we are now on the bus back to Quito, we have actually left our new found tribal friends to get on with the next two weeks of our adventure in Ecuador.

We also said goodbye to Sabine, Yanapuma's volunteer group leader, as she joins her next group today. She has promised to follow the rest of our trip here on the blog - Thanks again Sabine for making the first part of our adventure in Ecuador such great fun. 8-) xxx

More blog in a day or two we hope 8-)

  4. Word up Cuz [AKA Millie!] I am getting bored now! - This is the 5th time I have posted, and either the person reviewing them doesnt like me or finds me rude and offensive (honest I am not!), or my grasp of the internet bloggsphere process is lacking... :o) - So, attempt Number 5!! - Hope your having fun out there, and your loving the experiences, and taking the opportunity to get into some scary ones! - We all know the scary ones are the best!! - Look forward to your return, and hearing the stories and seeing the photos... Take it easy Millie (or should I say Mille), and take in each and every moment of it all.... Your favourite cousin - Michael ;o) :o)

  6. Heyy guys!

Pip got a lightning bolt tattoo on her forehead?! I want one too! I'm so jealous.

I got your facebook message Charlotte, and I did laugh, I'd love to see this video when you're back! I'm glad you had fun. :)

Well, the most exciting thing to happen to me today was when a little 8 year old girl almost punched the Dentist's nose. LOL, I'm sad.

Sorry, I can't update you on Big Brother, I'm not 'common' or a 'chav', so I don't watch it. I'm joking by the way, don't want to offend anyone.

Hopefully I will get to see you all soon!

P.s. Charlotte, I also miss your elbows babe! Hej hej. :)

  8. To our only child Charlotte!
Well I am now seriously panicking! I sent you a comment on Sunday, and I cannot see it anywhere ( it was not rude or offensive!)
It was great to read the blog on sunday and see what you all have done and achieve in two weeks. I am really glad you made some new friends (rat, Spider and other insects!)
I think your french family is having problem to send comments. Vianney is now there. Hopefully he will help them. In anycase they are reading the Blog! In any case I think it is now impossible to beat Tilly and Millie!!
Sissacy was great! We had a lovely time. Etna is massive. I missed not swimming with you!
You know the dodgy eye you got in France at Easter, well I got two, and I have a photo to prove it. It was very unsightly, It only lasted 2 days! Toby had a nice time in the kennel and did not seem very happy to see us. I wonder why?
The tribe looks well cool with their red tattoos. But please come back!!
    Hope you get this comment.
    Lots of love M&D

    Hi J,
Mum and I were exploring wet yesterday. We were walking for an hour or so in heavy rain. We thought it would only be a shower, this is Italy in the summer! so we did not get all the gear on, then when we were wet there did not seem to be any point, and we got wetter. Even the money in my wallet was soaked, I had Euros spread out over the bed drying out.
All this walking is good for Mum, she is going to bed before me and was still asleep when I crept down to reception to sneak a look at this blog.
    Dad Xx

  16. Rosemary!! Your mother here again, soz and all that.Hope you're having a good hike today (Wed) or are you on horseback? I can't imagine how you're going to get your short, sturdy little legs over a horse if I'm honest. Anyway, good luck with that. NALGO here, saw Steve next door shooting a water gun at Missy this morning as she was about to do her business in his garden - he's gone way down in my estimations! No horror stories from the ward but Rory says hi. Oh yes, and Henry's tweeted that he's now into girls so pucker up, you could be the one! Lots of love, Mum xxxxxx

  19. Hi Rhiannan
Olivia and Bryony have just come back from Coral Reef. Karissa and Jenny (from St Pauls) went too. Maintenance works meant that the slides were out of action! The girls weren't too impressed.

Olivia said that Aquadrome in Basingstoke is much better - and Bryony agrees. So no more nagging for Coral Reef! Hooray my dishwasher is coming on Friday.

The weather is still pretty good here just hope that it lasts until we go on holiday. Your baby plants are all doing well - the only problem with planting them in different pots is that you have to water more pots!!

Missing you. Love you lots. Mum, Dad, Olivia & Bryony xxxx (Karissa & Jenny said hi)

  20. Hi Rhiannan

I thought that I had better tell you before the others tell you, yes - I have bought a long dress for the summer and it is not black! Lots of reds, yellows, oranges - very gipsy like and very much like your clothes actually!! And I love it!! Don't tell grandad, he has been nagging for me to buy something other than black for years!! The girls can't believe it. They want to know who I am, and what I have done with their mum!!

    Love you lots, Mum

PS You can forget university next year - we miss you too much!!
